ARIA MES/SCADA · FAQ

Frequently asked questions about ARIA MES/SCADA.

What industrial buyers, IT teams, and production managers ask most often about ARIA MES/SCADA: integration, security, deployment, roadmap. If your question isn't here, let's talk.

Does it work with non-Siemens PLCs?
Yes. ARIA Connector speaks OPC UA (any compatible PLC) and S7 (Siemens). For Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, Mitsubishi, and other PLCs we use the PLC's own OPC UA server or a dedicated gateway. The rest of the platform doesn't change.
Can ARIA MES/SCADA integrate with an existing MES or ERP?
Yes. The ARIA Data Gateway exposes real-time APIs and REST endpoints. The typical pattern: the ERP receives events on completed batches and traceability via webhook or pull, and ARIA reads product master data and production orders from the MES.
How much process-data history can we keep?
It depends on the infrastructure. Typically 12-24 months online for transactional and high-frequency time-series data, with cold archive on S3-compatible storage or corporate NAS. The retention policy is designed with the customer based on compliance and analytics requirements.
On-premise or cloud?
Both. The most common installations are on-premise to reduce latency and network dependency. For multi-site or consolidated reporting we propose hybrid deployments: on-prem at the field, analytics in the cloud.
How do you handle software updates in production?
Rolling updates: SCADA, Data Gateway, Core, and Connector are separate modules and are updated one at a time without stopping the line. Station-level HMIs stay operational thanks to the Connector decoupling and the PLC's role as single source of truth.
Is there user and role management?
Yes, hierarchical. Predefined roles (operator, shift lead, supervisor, manager, plant admin) configurable per installation. Every SCADA section has a minimum required level. Secure authentication with encrypted sessions and automatic refresh, plus a complete audit log.
