FAQ10 questions

Integration, security, and going live

Does it work with non-Siemens PLCs?

Yes. ARIA Connector speaks OPC UA (any compatible PLC) and S7 (Siemens). For Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, Mitsubishi, and other PLCs we use the PLC's own OPC UA server or a dedicated gateway. The rest of the platform doesn't change.

Can ARIA MES/SCADA integrate with an existing MES or ERP?

Yes. The ARIA Data Gateway exposes real-time APIs and REST endpoints. The typical pattern: the ERP receives events on completed batches and traceability via webhook or pull, and ARIA reads product master data and production orders from the MES.

How much process-data history can we keep?

It depends on the infrastructure. ARIA MES/SCADA typically keeps 12-24 months online for transactional and high-frequency time-series data, with cold archive on S3-compatible storage or corporate NAS. The retention policy is designed with the customer based on compliance and analytics requirements.

On-premise or cloud?

Both: ARIA MES/SCADA installs either way. The most common are on-premise, to reduce latency and network dependency. For multi-site or consolidated reporting we propose hybrid deployments: on-prem at the field, analytics in the cloud.

How do you handle software updates in production?

ARIA MES/SCADA updates in a rolling fashion: SCADA, Data Gateway, Core, and Connector are separate modules and are updated one at a time without stopping the line. Station-level HMIs stay operational thanks to the Connector decoupling and the PLC's role as single source of truth.

Is there user and role management?

Yes, hierarchical: ARIA MES/SCADA ships predefined roles (operator, shift lead, supervisor, manager, plant admin) configurable per installation. Every SCADA section has a minimum required level. Secure authentication with encrypted sessions and automatic refresh, plus a complete audit log.

Is the mobile app included, or priced separately?

It is included. The ARIA MES/SCADA app is neither a module to purchase nor a per-user licence: the platform is priced on the monitored stations, and anyone with access to ARIA also uses it from their phone. It is available for iOS and Android and shows the same data as the shop-floor terminals.

Does the app work without a constant connection?

Real-time views need the network. For operational actions — batch confirmations, andon calls — ARIA MES/SCADA queues the action and syncs it when the connection returns. The PLC stays the source of truth: no critical write is reported as confirmed if the sync did not go through.

How do operators authenticate from the app?

With a personal numeric PIN or an NFC badge — the same gesture as the line terminals: short sessions, automatic re-login at shift change, and a per-operator audit trail on every action. For supervisors and managers ARIA MES/SCADA also supports corporate SSO.

Do push notifications cross the OT firewall?

Push goes out through the standard iOS and Android providers on the IT network, not the OT one. The app only talks to the ARIA MES/SCADA data gateway, exposed according to the customer's policy — VPN, reverse proxy or a dedicated gateway: no port opened towards the stations.
