Frequently asked questions

What does integrating a robotic cell cost?

Scope decides everything: a pick-and-place on an existing conveyor and an assembly cell with vision and format changeover are projects an order of magnitude apart. The items that move a quote are the number of axes, whether machine vision is involved, the safety level required, and how much has to be integrated with the existing line. What you can ask for is an offer that separates analysis, development, startup, and documentation: it's the only way to compare two quotes.

Do you only work with Fanuc, KUKA, and ABB?

Those are the three stacks we work on continuously, so they're the ones where we can commit to timing and quality without a learning curve at your expense. If you already run another brand, let's talk: the part that matters — cell logic, PLC integration, safety, dialogue with the line — doesn't change with the badge on the arm.

Can you work on a cell that already exists?

Yes, and it's most of the real work: reprogramming paths, adding a format, replacing the vision system, upgrading safety. The first thing needed is understanding what's there: if documentation is partial — it often is — reconstructing the as-is state is a project phase, not a surprise to discover mid-flight.

Is offline simulation worth it, or wasted time?

It's worth it when downtime is expensive or paths are complex: simulating up front moves commissioning hours from the floor to the desk, and on a cell already in production those hours are lost output. On a simple cell in a greenfield plant the advantage thins out. It's a per-case call, not a rule.

Who handles safety and certification?

Functional safety is part of the project, not a downstream formality: risk assessment, component selection, category and performance level per ISO 13849, and functional verification at commissioning. If the work substantially modifies an existing machine, the documentation picture changes too: that's one of the first things to clarify, before writing the quote.

Does the cell need to talk to the MES or the ERP?

In most cases it's worth it: if the cell stays an island, the pieces it produces have no history and its process data ends up nowhere. The link runs from the cell PLC to the supervisory layer (OPC UA or S7) and from there to the MES or ERP. Worth deciding at the start, because adding it later means going back into the logic.
