In packaging, value leaks at end-of-line: palletizing, labeling, shipping, and a warehouse that's often not coordinated with production. Palletizers, labelers, and conveyors from different vendors that can't keep the pace of the line upstream. The product is ready but sits downstream, and the plant's real capacity is lost in the last few meters.
Warehouse and production not coordinated
Manual line feeding, AMR missions disconnected from orders, materials that arrive once the line has already stopped. The warehouse is a separate world instead of being part of the production process.
Wrong pallets and labels = retail penalties
Invalid SSCC, late DESADV, wrong mixed pallets: retailers apply penalties for wrong pallets or out-of-window deliveries that eat margin. WMS and MES must speak the end customer's language.
End-of-line islands with no single supervision
No unified view on micro-stops and their causes across multi-vendor machines: approximate root-causes and interventions that chase the fault instead of starting from data.

What does end-of-line automation include?
Secondary packaging: case packing and cartoning
Case formers, case packers and cartoners are the first stretch of the end-of-line, and the point where the upstream line's pace has to be absorbed. We program the station PLC and the accumulation buffers, with recipe-driven format changes instead of manual ones, so secondary packaging doesn't dictate the takt to the whole plant.
Robotic palletizing
Fanuc, KUKA or ABB robots with pallet patterns managed as recipes from the SCADA, vision to orient the case and verify the layer, safety designed to ISO 13849. The operator introduces the new format, not the cell's vendor.
Pallet labeling and identification
SSCC/GS1 labels generated by the WMS, applied print-and-apply and re-read with Cognex or Keyence vision before exit: an unreadable pallet is diverted, not shipped. It's where retail penalties are avoided.
End-of-line quality control
Checkweighing, closure and label-presence checks, code reading on the case: the checks enter the line logic and produce a traced reject, not an alarm someone has to notice.
Stretch wrapping, strapping and pallet exit
Stretch wrappers, strappers, roller conveyors and the exit bay, with the handshake to AMRs, shuttles or forklifts: the finished pallet leaves the line with destination and location already assigned by the WMS.
Supervision, data and end-of-line OEE
ARIA MES/SCADA collects micro-stops per machine and reason, the OEE of the end-of-line stretch and the pallet-to-order link, with data to ERP and shipping. The end-of-line, usually the least measured part of the plant, becomes the one with the cleanest data.

- Typical situation
- End-of-line handles multiple pallet formats with frequent changeovers, but the stacking pattern lives inside the robot's program. Every new format requires calling in the cell's vendor, and the format change stays a manual procedure documented on paper.
- How we work
- Palletizing patterns move out of the code into recipes the operator can select, with the cell receiving the layout as a parameter. Safety reviewed for area access, and supervision that connects end-of-line to the production order.
- Expected outcome
- A new pallet format introduced without calling back the cell's vendor, format changes by selection instead of by procedure, and automatic reconciliation of what's been palletized per order.
- Typical situation
- Warehouse and line talk to each other through paper and manual handoffs. Picks arrive late relative to production, real stock levels diverge from what the system shows, and material-handling vehicles don't know what's needed where.
- How we work
- Material-handling missions generated from the line's real state instead of static lists, with location management and movement reconciliation. Where it makes sense, autonomous vehicles integrated into the same coordination layer; the interface with the ERP runs through an API.
- Expected outcome
- Stock levels aligned with what actually moves, material at the line when it's needed, and internal material handling measurable instead of estimated.
